UFC 65 Ultimate Fighting Championship from Las Vegas, has Georges St. Pierre wins with TKO over Matt Hughes at Arco Arena in the Octagon. St. Pierre has never been shy in saying Matt Hughes as his mixed martial arts idol, even citing it as a reason for his 2004 loss to the longtime champion. St. Pierre beat his hero in their rematch, scoring a one-sided second round TKO to win the Ultimate Fighting Championship 65 Welterweight Championship.

The outcome was most unexpected my most UFC 65 enthusiasts. Most mixed martial arts observers, who figured the Ultimate Fighting Championship Bad Intentions bout would be one of the most competitive of 2006. Finally, it was St. Pierre who ran through Hughes with extreme prejudice.

Georges St. Pierre 13-1 pushed the UFC 65 pace early behind leg kicks and punches as Matt Hughes 42-5 took his time. At the one minute mark of the round, it was St. Pierre picking the action up in the Octagon even more enthusiastically as he stopped Hughes with his impressive standup. Two low kicks from St. Pierre halted his momentum as Hughes was forced to take a break for recovery. The Canadian kept his focus upon the restart and went right back to working his hands and feet on Hughes and tossing off the first half-hearted takedown attempt. With under 1:20 to go, St. Pierre took the fight to the canvas and landed some strikes before standing and scoring with a knee. Hughes looked to get points by committing to a takedown, but St. Pierre brushed him off and finished with a right hand that dropped the UFC champion just before the bell.

Matt Hughes began the second round of UFC 65 with a smile, as St. Pierre was winning the standup game and showing physical strength to keep the UFC champion at bay. St. Pierre, with 3:45 remaining, landing a high left kick that put Hughes on the mat. With referee John McCarthy’s stoppage in the Octagon at 1:25 of the second round, a new UFC winner was crowned.

In the co-feature at Ultimate Fighting Championship 65, Tim Sylvia retained his UFC Heavyweight Championship with a five round unanimous decision over Jeff Monson in a fight that was closer than the 50-45 and 49-46, twice, judges’ verdicts.

Platinum Las Vegas Condo Owner Buys Out Real Estate Partner

The Platinum Las Vegas Condominium Resort Hotel and Spa division announced that Marcus Corp. had bought out one of its Las Vegas real estate joint venture partners in Platinum Hotel Las Vegas.

Marcus’ ownership interest in the public, non gaming Las Vegas condominium space in the Platinum hotel from 50 percent to 90 percent. The remaining 10 percent of Platinum Las Vegas hotel public space is owned by another real estate joint venture partner. Marcus Hotels and Resorts, which manages Platinum real estate, acquired the additional ownership from entities affiliated with developer Michael Peterson. Peterson developed the Timber Ridge Lodge and Waterpark, a Lake Geneva condominium hotel and resort that's managed by Marcus Hotels and Resorts. Terms of the real estate transaction were not disclosed.

Platinum Las Vegas condominiums is a four-star, 255 one- and two-bedroom suite Las Vegas condo hotel opened Oct. 25. The location of the non-gaming property on Flamingo Road is just off the Las Vegas Strip.

Marcus Hotels and Resorts, a unit of Milwaukee-based Marcus Corp., owns or manages a portfolio of 17 resorts, hotels and other hospitality properties across the country, with one additional hotel under development. The real estate developer is a joint venture of Chicago-based Diversified Real Estate Concepts and Marcus Hotels & Resorts of Milwaukee.

Priced between $400,000 and $1 million, the Las Vegas condos range from 911 sf to 2,166 sf and include 24-hour room service, a full kitchen, a balcony, a fireplace, a 42-inch HD plasma television, an oversized whirlpool bath, town car service and complimentary high-speed Internet access. Hyatt Lake Las Vegas Purchased By Loews Hotels December 8

Hyatt Lake Las Vegas hotel is being purchased by Loews Hotels in Henderson real estate. Hyatt Lake Las Vegas hotel will become a non-gaming hotel and its casino will be closed by the end of November. The Las Vegas luxury hotel will then be renamed Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort.

Loews Hotel from New York should start business officially December 8 when they take over the 493 luxury room Lake Las Vegas property. The hotel’s 8,000 square foot casino will close around November 24 according to Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas at Lake Las Vegas Resort.

Transcontinental Corporation owns the The Hyatt Lake Las Vegas, and the purchase later this month will be between Loews Hotels and a private investor. The commercial Las Vegas real estate investor would have 75 percent ownership, while Loews would have 25 percent. The purchase price is undisclosed.

Since the new Las Vegas hotel will not have a casino, Loew’s will not have to seek a gaming license. The shut down of the casino, which has 60 slots and six table games, would be done prior to the ownership change.

Dale McDaniel will become the new managing director of Loews Lake Las Vegas real estate. McDaniel was general manger of Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando. He’ll replace David Needleman who is pursuing a career with Hyatt.

$5 million will be used to upgrade the hotel, which was built in 1999. The hotel rooms, lobby, bathrooms and outside areas will be renovated. Flatscreen TVs will be put in guest rooms. Lowes will make the fire pit and pool areas and fire pit more plush.

One of the main attractions of the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas Resort was its appeal to meeting organizers from around the world. Las Vegas Sands Corporation original application called for 849 condo units, but changed plans for the condominium tower would contain 370 ultra-luxury units.

The County Commission’s approval, contingent upon a formal development agreement, granted Las Vegas Sands several code variances. Sands received breaks on requirements for the setback and parking for the upper portions of the tower, according to county planning.

The total number of sold Las Vegas homes for October was 1,689, down nearly 3 percent from September and down 34.4 percent from one year ago.

The median home sales price for townhomes in Las Vegas real estate and condos for sale prices remained at an even $200,000. This price is up 2.6 percent from the same time last year.
