Las Vegas Project City Center $7 Billion Resort Pours Concrete Foundation

Las Vegas $7 billion Project City Center, a mixed-use urban village, by MGM Mirage started pouring the 10,000 cubic yards of concrete foundation just after midnight Sunday to start the largest privately financed construction project in the United States. This is taking place between the Bellagio Hotel and Monte Carlo.

One million cubic yards of dirt were removed to pave the way for the concrete pour and construction work for the new tower.

MGM Mirage Resorts President Robert Baldwin, who is overseeing the 18 million-square-foot, mixed-use urban village, Project City Center, said the pour is one of the largest in Las Vegas history and marks the first stage of construction on the project.

Starting this project shows MGM Mirage's commitment and marks a paradigm shift for the company.

The Project City Center Las Vegas real estate project will integrate residential condominiums and a retail mall with a hotel-casino development with a living experience like none other in Las Vegas. This is MGM Mirage largest real estate project.

Project City Center Las Vegas is a shift from the traditional three-point casino-hotel towers. This will be a self-contained metropolitan resort, maximizing the value of its every square foot on the Las Vegas Strip including residential condos, with many amenities and enough entertainment to keep their customers from experiencing other nearby resorts.

Within the next week there will be three phases for the 12-foot deep foundation, by Perini Building Co., of the Cesar Pelli-designed 60 story, 4,000 room hotel-casino tower, the most recognizable architectural component of Las Vegas Project City Center.

There are 600 people working on the design and construction management phase of Project City Center. During 2008, that number will increase to 7,200. At completion, 12,000 Las Vegans will be employed.

Project City Center has announced the addition of Studio Daniel Libeskind, Murphy/Jahn Architects and Rockwell Group to the architectural design team.

These firms will give shape Project City Center’s retail and residential parts which is a modern urban residential district with luxury gourmet restaurants, shops and unique pedestrian environments. The design team will shape the future look of Las Vegas and set the standard for new growth worldwide.
